Happy New Year!
We packed an awful lot into the end of the year - literally! We moved flat (again) which involved rather a lot of last minute packing, cleaning, to-ing and fro-ing and inevitably swearing. I'd love to say that we'll never be doing that again but I'd be lying.....nice as the new flat is I just don't see us here for the long haul.
Josh enjoyed his first Christmas very much if the wide cheeky grin was anything to go by when he saw all the presents and lovely shiny wrapping paper that was his to destroy! We had our families over on 27th for a belated Christmas buffet and Josh pressie-fest which was fun. I cooked Nigella's 'Fully Festive Ham' with red cabbage again which went down rather well as it had done our first Christmas together in 2004.
So what else have we been up to? Shopping, wrapping, baking - all the usual suspects. Eating too much festive fayre as per usual and inevitably feeling the effects of far too many mincepies on the old waistline. As per family tradition I managed to make 54 'mincers' on Christmas Eve sadly without Poohs help as hideously dense fog made driving from Peebles out of the question :-( I also made some gingerbread families to give as wee pressies to the folk who called in before Christmas using the fab cookie cutters that JB gave me last year.
Josh and I went along to a Christmas Carol service at Morningside Baptist Church with Kirsten and her family. Josh was a little angel in the baby carrier for most of it - I only had to take him out a couple of times when he got a little too vocal during the sermon at the end. A little patience required Joshua?? It made a nice change and seemed an appropriate start to the festivities.
I was well and truly spoiled on my Birthday on 28th. The three of us headed into town in the morning for a bit of shopping and a spot of lunch then my Mum and Grandma came over in the afternoon with a chocolate birthday cake and pressies. We had intended to go and see 'Happy Feet' at the Dominion cinema but someone had booked the whole place for a private function so we had to rethink things at the last minute. All was not lost as Mum and Pooh very kindly looked after Josh so that JB and I could have a much craved nap! oh sweet sweet sleep :-) The spoiling continued with a lovely evening out with my hubby. It was so nice to get dressed up and go out for a meal - just the two of us. We had a fantastic meal at Thai Lemongrass in Bruntsfield and a drink on the way home at the ill named 'Morningside Glory'. It will always be the 'Hermitage' to us eh JB! And the spoiling didn't stop there! My present from Jonathan was everything that a tired new Mum needs - a 'Secret Indulgences Half Day Spa' at Pure in Ocean Terminal! I can't wait........I can practically feel the tension rolling away at the thought of being massaged, wrapped, lotioned and potioned. Ah bliss!
